I grew up a half block north of Seminary from the fifties. Saw them drain the lake. Most of the fish that were netted in the drain were donated to orphanages. This was on Channel 5 Texas News. I knew it was named for the railroad but did not know about the golf course or its soon to be famous youthful players.
Steph, I do not recall one, but that proves nothing. The Quartermaster Depot south of the mall and west of I-35 had a water tower. You can plug in a zip code and check aerial photos from 1970 and 1979 here. I did not see anything.

Was there ever an old Ft. worth water tower off I-35 and south of the Seminary mall back in the 70’s?
