Soapsuds into the Sunset

After the death of Will Rogers, Amon Carter commissioned sculptress and ranch heiress Electra Waggoner Biggs (granddaughter of W. T. Waggoner) to sculpt Riding into the Sunset. The statue of Rogers and Soapsuds was finished in 1939 and placed in front of Will Rogers Memorial Center in 1942, but Carter, ever the showman, kept the statue crated until 1947, when it was unveiled by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bonus trivia: GMC’s Buick Electra model was named for the artist. So was the Lockheed Electra (as in Amelia Earhart).
