Riddle: When Does a Corner Have No Corners?

Answer: When the corner is curved so that a streetcar can negotiate the turn, as was done years ago at the intersection of Henderson Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

This building (Hedrick, 1929) at that uncornered corner also has no corners. It was designed so that its front parallels the curve of the street. The building has housed, among other businesses, an Alexander-Bale grocery store, a Renfro drugstore, and the Gause-Ware 1879 Room. The building is now owned by—take a deep breath—Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, which to some of us will always be—from the time we were born there until the time we die there—just plain “Harris Hospital.”
